Stone Sharpe Stays Sharp to go Back to Back at Plymouth

By: Lucas Halbert - Grassroots Racing News

Plymouth, Indiana (7/1/21)... Stone Sharpe has been the top dog so far through three nights of the Race Clean Products Hoosier Dirt Cup. Sharpe took his second Puremax Racing Oil HART Non-Wing Micro Series presented by EMi win of the week on Thursday night at Plymouth Speedway.

Sharpe, a Frankfort, Indiana native, started on the pole the first two nights of the Hoosier Dirt Cup at Circus City Speedway and at the Rush County Fairgrounds. On only one of those nights though was Sharpe able to come away with a win.

Thursday night, Stone started tenth in his heat race and drove his No. 29s all the way to a second place finish to be the Chemstream Race Fuels High Point, and earn a place in the redraw. Sharpe drew inside of row two to start third in the twenty-five lap A-Main.

Unlike the night before, Stone had to work for his victory on Thursday night. Sharpe went to the bottom like everyone else on initial start, but was the first one in line to try the high line. Once Sharpe took to the top, he quickly passed Harper to make his way into second.

Two laps later after taking over P2, Sharpe continued to pound the top to take the lead.

Turn three was catching cars tonight. Multiple drivers slid off the cushion in turn three in heat racing, but the majority of drivers going off track came in the feature. Jack Hoyer (Frankfort, Indiana) was the first driver to do it, then Justin Harper (Denver, Indiana), Sam Kimmel (Greencastle, Indiana), and Tres Mehler (Oblong, Illinois) followed.

After holding off Eastin Ashbrook for a trio of cautions, Stone Sharpe takes night number three of the Hoosier Dirt Cup. Through three races Sharpe has an average start of 1.666 and an average finish of 1.333, both averages lead all competitors.

HDC opening round winner, Kole Kirkman (Kokomo, Indiana) picked up the Vision 1 Composites Hard Charger Award after gaining eight positions during the feature to finish fourth. After going off track in the early going, Jack Hoyer rebounded to grab a Top 10 with a ninth place finish.

Friday and Saturday night the Puremax Racing Oil HART Non-Wing Micro Series presented by EMi is at US 24 Speedway in Logansport, Indiana to wrap up the inaugural Hoosier Dirt Cup.
